It’s Time to Make That Vision Board

In What The Heck’s A Vision Board—and How Can It Change Your Life? Martha Beck explains what a vision board is and how to make it: “Find pictures of things you want in your life and stick ’em where you can see ’em”—and create virtually identical collages: a wad of cash, a handsome husband, a gorgeous body, a luxury car, a tropical beach. Snore. These images constitute our culture’s idea of the good life. Even a rich, happily married beauty queen with a Porsche in the driveway and a house on the ocean will crank out this same damn vision board. This has no juice at all. To really work, a vision board has to come not from your culture but from your primordial, nonsocial self—the genetically unique animal/angel that contains your innate preferences.”

The first time I heard about vision board was 3 years ago on my cruise in New Zealand. I was attending a Law-of-Attraction seminar and one of the participants asked me if I had a vision board. I told him that I regularly visualized stuff I wanted to happen. He argued that having a vision board is completely different and much more powerful. He said that he had made one in the past and he looked at it recently and saw Australia on it and a cruise and he totally forgot about it. And there he was on a cruise to Australia. I found that quite interesting. It took me three years to mature to the idea of a vision board. The time is now.

I am making a vision, errr… movie. Instead of a vision board (snore!) I am making a vision movie. I’ve already gathered 180 awesome pictures – the vast majority are pictures from the best moments of my life – on the cruise ship, in amazing locations, with my family, awards I received. I added a few pictures from the internet: some cool stickers I want to be able to put on my books, a private jet, you know, the usual 🙂 I already have a song that I want to listen to while I look at them. Finally, I will add some amazing affirmations. This isn’t difficult – I have a guided meditation I do often and I will just transcribe the text.

Let’s see how my life will change if I look at this amazing DIY mind movie every day of 2014 🙂 I will report back in a year 🙂

What about you? What are your experiences with vision boards?

Yes! I recently got into vision boards, and while I thought they were a little silly at first, they really are an excellent creative output and source of inspiration. Maybe if I pin up enough iceberg photos I’ll actually make it to Antarctica soon?

  2. I think you might and that’s the point! Everybody’s vision board will be different, because everyone’s dreams are different! I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you and looking forward to your pictures from Antarctica 🙂
